<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recognition apparatus capable of reducing calculation quantity for pattern recognition for detecting pedestrians. <P>SOLUTION: The image recognition apparatus is configured as follows. Range-finding means for measuring a distance between an own vehicle and a three-dimentional object existing in the travelling direction. Obstacle detecting means for detecting a detection frame 45 surrounding a cluster of range-finding points measured to be in the same distance by the range-finding means as an obstacle which might collide with the own vehicle. Pedestrian detecting means for detecting a pedestrian only for obstacles within the detection frame 45 by executing a pedestrian recognition by template matching within a search area 50 set with a reference to an edge location of the detection frame 45. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
