<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a suction opening for a vacuum cleaner which has high pick performance of debris or dust. <P>SOLUTION: The suction opening for the vacuum cleaner includes: a rotatable stirrer assembly; a stirrer chamber for storing the assembly; and a sole plate for forming a downward opening in which debris enters the stirrer chamber. The opening has front and rear side edge parts. The sole plate has forward and rearward parts. A pair of supporting members are positioned on each part of the sole plate, and extended downward beyond a sole plate to support the sole plate at an upper side of a relatively hard floor surface. The support member is sunk between fibers of a relatively soft carpeted floor surface. The edge of the opening has the thickness of less than 5 mm to make contact with the carpeted floor surface. The bottom edge of the pair of support members is positioned on the first flat surface, and the edge of the opening is positioned on the second flat surface tilted upward with respect to the first flat surface.
