ORGANIC EL DEVICE

An organic EL device (1) is provided with a first substrate (2) that has conductivity, an organic layer (3) formed on the first substrate (2), a second substrate (6) that has transparency, and an electrode layer (4) formed on the second substrate (6). The electrode layer (4) of the first substrate (2) and the organic layer (3) of the second substrate (6) are disposed so as to be in mutual contact. The organic layer (3) is not formed in some region of the peripheral part of the second substrate. In the region where the organic layer (3) is not formed, part of the electrode layer (4) is extended, and the first substrate (2) is not present to face the extended electrode layer. Part of the electrode layer (4) is exposed and constitutes an electrode extraction part (40). The extended electrode layer (4) in the region where the organic layer (3) is not formed is exposed outside of the first substrate (2) and forms the electrode extraction part (40); therefore, the electrode extraction part (40) can be formed by a simple procedure such as eliminating the first substrate (2), and manufacturing can be carried out efficiently.
