<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an Fe(II)-substituted beta-type zeolite which can adsorb and remove effectively nitrogen monoxide and hydrocarbons contained in a gas to be cleaned even in the case where oxygen is present in a high concentration in the gas, and the case where the temperature of the gas is low. <P>SOLUTION: The Fe(II)-substituted beta-type zeolite is one ion-exchanged with Fe(II) ions. In the Fe(II)-substituted beta-type zeolite, the SiO<SB POS="POST">2</SB>/Al<SB POS="POST">2</SB>O<SB POS="POST">3</SB>ratio is 10 to 18; the BET specific surface area is 400 to 700 m<SP POS="POST">2</SP>/g; a micropore specific surface area is 290 to 500 m<SP POS="POST">2</SP>/g; and a micropore volume is 0.15 to 0.25 cm<SP POS="POST">3</SP>/g.
