<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable multilayer ceramic electronic component which can restrict slackening of external terminal electrodes or formation of voids between a substrate ceramic layer and an external terminal electrode inside a slackened portion. <P>SOLUTION: As ceramic for covering buried portions 3b of an external terminal electrode 3 and also for constituting covering ceramic layers 21 exposed to a first principal plane 10a of a component body 10, one which has a different composition than that of ceramic constituting a substrate ceramic layer 22, or a ceramic layer which constitutes the component body other than the covering ceramic layers 21, is used. The covering ceramic layers are made to contain at least one kind of oxide selected from the group of Al, Si, Zr, Ti and Mg more than does the substrate ceramic layer contain.
