The coil (10) has windings i.e. orthocyclic winding, whose winding layers (I-VII) are formed parallel to a coil inner side (12) and extend between two ends (14a, 14b) of the coil in a winding space. The winding layers define an inner winding layer (2) and an outer winding layer (3) with respect to the coil inner side. The winding layers are commonly wrapped over an extension part. The winding layers of the windings are assigned with one another. The inner and outer winding layers comprise a temporary end. A winding gap is formed between the inner and outer winding layers. An independent claim is also included for an electric machine.
