<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the time until change is gathered in a change receiving tray after a change payment instruction is given and to contribute to mitigation of congestion at a cash register. <P>SOLUTION: A change payment device includes: a coin storage part 10 which stores a plurality of coins by denominations; a plurality of buffers 30 which temporarily store coins by denominations; a conveyance mechanism 21 which conveys coins from the coin storage part 10 to the buffers 30; and a change receiving tray 50 which receives coins that are taken out from selected buffers 30. The device predicts amounts of change from a total price of merchandise and a plurality of expected amounts of money to be received, calculates the number of coins of each denomination necessary for the predicted amounts of change, and makes the buffers 30 store the calculated numbers of coins.
