PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a negative electrode active material offering high discharge capacity and high initial charge efficiency, a nonaqueous electrolyte battery comprising the negative electrode active material, and a battery pack.

SOLUTION: The negative electrode active material contains monoclinic titanium dioxide containing pores having an average diameter of 8 to 25 nm, and the total volume of the pores having a diameter of 10 nm or smaller constitutes 10 to 30% of the total volume of all the pores.
