<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device diagnostic apparatus that performs diagnostic processing for a device without an influence on primary processing of a computer using the device. <P>SOLUTION: A computer 1000 configuring a device diagnostic apparatus includes: a device access request program 1006 for requesting an access to a hard disk 1010; a fixed cycle diagnostic request program 1001 for performing a diagnostic request in a fixed cycle; a device driver 1002 for performing diagnostic processing for the hard disk 1010 in response to a diagnostic request; and a device access determination program 1003 for determining whether the hard disk 1010 is being accessed by a difference between the latest time the hard disk 1010 is accessed and the time diagnostic request is performed.
