<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for heat-assisted magnetic recording which guide light to a waveguide by a low-cost device having excellent tolerance of positioning and high light transmission efficiency. <P>SOLUTION: A recording head 30 includes a laser diode 32, a solid immersion mirror (SIM) 34, and an optical delivery system 36. The optical delivery system 36 delivers light from a laser diode to the solid immersion mirror which focuses the light on a focus adjacent to an air bearing surface 48. The light emitted by the laser diode is coupled to a slider waveguide by an input coupler, expanded by a beam expander, and collimated into a beam 46 by a parabolic collimator. The beam 46 is reflected by a first mirror and then reflected by a second mirror 2, which directs the beam to the solid immersion mirror. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
