The invention relates to a method and system for cooling milk comprising heat recovery, consisting of a first heat exchanger that pre-cools the freshly-milked milk to a certain temperature using cold water, which is pre-heated to this end; a second heat exchanger connected to a heat pump via a closed cooling fluid circuit, wherein the second exchanger cools the cooled milk in said second exchange. The heat pump operates with a cooling gas in a closed circuit and includes an evaporator and a condenser, wherein the temperature of the coolant exiting the second exchanger is lowered in the evaporator by thermal contact with the cooling gas, and the temperature of the pre-heated water from the first exchanger is raised in the condenser by thermal contact with the cooling gas for different uses.
