The invention relates to phosphenium compounds of general formula (I), where R, R1, R2, R3 and R4 are identical or different and stand for a linear or branched C1-C6 alkyl radical that may optionally be substituted, or R1 and R2 and/or R3 and R4 are bonded to each other, forming a ring, R5 and R6 stand for a saturated or unsaturated branched or linear alkyl group, alkenyl group or aryl group that may have suitable substituents, including hetero atoms from substituents, a hetero atom-containing hydrocarbon group that may have suitable substituents, and the radicals R5 and R6 may form a ring that may be 4-20-membered, saturated or unsaturated, alicyclic or heteroalicyclic and may have suitable substituents, and X­ ¯ stands for an anion. The invention also relates to a method for preparing said compounds, and to the use of said compounds in metal complexes that can be used as catalysts in organic synthesis.
