A computer system is provided with a plurality of computers which store data therein, and a management computer which manages the data stored in each of the computers. Said computer system is provided with a storage generated by integrating storage areas provided in the plurality of computers. The management computer stores file management information including information relating to the placement of split data stored in the storage and file system management information including placement definition information, specifies a file system that is the storage destination of an arbitrarily defined file when accepting a file generation request including file identification information relating to the arbitrarily defined file from an application for processing data in units of file data, determines a method for placing the split data in the storage areas constituting the storage with reference to the file system management information corresponding to the specified file system, and generates the file management information. |
