<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for security and secure transmissions in data processing systems. <P>SOLUTION: Each terminal of broadcast/multicast service is provided with a registration key. A broadcast access key of a long-time update is encrypted using the registration key and provided periodically to a user. A short-time key of a short-time update is encrypted using the broadcast access key and provided periodically to the user. Broadcasts are then encrypted using the short-time key, wherein the user decrypts the broadcast message using the short-time key of the short-time update. When the terminal possesses a private key, a content provider encrypts the registration key by a public key corresponding to the private key, and transmits the encrypted registration key to the terminal.
