<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus, reception device, image transmission system, and image transmission method capable of suppressing battery consumption in image transmission. <P>SOLUTION: A camera 10 intermittently transmits to a server 30, transmission data TD where a first picture P1 to be decoded without referring to another picture is combined with one or more second pictures to be decoded by referring to another picture in last encoding data ED, and then, is shifted to a power save mode in each free time between the intermittent transmission.
