The invention relates to the use of risperidone N-oxide as a prodrug in antipsychotic treatment. The use of N-oxide type as a prodrug generates a slow conversion to the active entity, risperidone, simultaneously with an increased time of in-vivo remanence, with constant exposure at the central level and reduction of inter-individual variability generated by the genetic polymorphism of the metabolizing enzyme.
