765,766. Batteries. SOC. DE LA PILE LECLANCHE. Jan. 27, 1955 [Jan. 27, 1954], No. 2550/55. Class 53. A stack of flat cells has nested plastic trap 13 welded together to form a parallelepiped sealed casing for a battery block 10. Each tray is formed by folding a plastic strip 5 about the sides of a rectangular mandrel M as in Fig. 7. Each cell unit 18 comprises a tray 13, a zinc or magnesium plate 16 inserted in the tray and united to a carbon plate 17 located at the bottom of the tray, a porous paper separator 19 having a film 20 of jellified electrolyte placed on top of the plate 16, and a depolarizer 21 disposed on top of the separator 19. Each unit 18 is then nested into a previously assembled unit to which it is welded by applying vertical and horizontal heating electrodes carrying highfrequency current as in Fig. 11a (not shown). This process is repeated for the successive units until the required number of units are welded. The top and bottom cells have identical insulating plates 35a, 35 each having a central aperture. Any number of battery blocks 10 may be mounted in an overall casing of paper, metal or plastic material as in Fig. 3 (not shown). |
