The invention relates to a medical appliance for heating human or animal tissue. The appliance comprises a first magnetic field device (1, 2) for generating a first magnetic field (M1) in the tissue to be heated, wherein the first magnetic field (M1) is a time-constant gradient field, and a second magnetic field device (5, 6) for generating a second magnetic field in the tissue to be heated, wherein the second magnetic field (M2) varies over time with a frequency. The first and second magnetic field devices (1,2; 5, 6) can be positioned relative to each other in such a way that the second magnetic field (M2) has, in the tissue to be heated, a magnetic field component perpendicular to the first magnetic field (M1), as a result of which particles (9), which have a magnetic moment (m) and which are introduced into the tissue to be heated during the operation of the appliance, are moved in rotary oscillations. The particles (9) in each case form an oscillatory system with a resonant frequency that depends on the magnitude of the first magnetic field (M1) at the site of the respective particle (9) and on the moment of inertia and the magnetic moment (m) of the respective particle (9). The appliance according to the invention further comprises a user interface (8), via which an area (A) of maximal heating can be specified in the tissue to be heated with particles introduced therein. The appliance is configured such that, depending on the magnetic moment (m) and the moment of inertia of the particles (9), the frequency of the second magnetic field and/or the magnitude of the first magnetic field (M1) are adjusted in such a way that the particles (9) in the area (A) specified via the user interface (8) oscillate substantially with the resonant frequency. |
