The method involves adsorbing a cleaning substance i.e. ammonia precursor substance, on a catalytically active surface (18), which includes vaporization or decomposition temperature of more than 100 degree Celsius and less than 300 degree Celsius. A nitrogen compound is formed as a main component, to act on the catalytically active surface, and the cleaning substance is heated on the catalytically active surface to temperature above the vaporization or decomposition temperature. The substance is provided with the vaporization or decomposition temperature less than 140 degree Celsius.
