The present invention suppresses the occurrence of cracks at the edge portion of a protrusion of a diffraction optical element. The diffraction optical element (10) is provided with a diffractive surface (13). The diffractive surface (13) has a plurality of protrusions (15). The protrusions (15) have: a first surface (16) having a diffractive function; and a second surface (17) connecting to the first surface (16) and extending in a manner so as to rise up. The tilt angle (?) of the second surface (17) with respect to the optical axis (X) differs in accordance with the region of the diffractive surface (13).
