The device receives information from a motor vehicle and/or an infrastructure component and outputs a predetermined acoustic signal based on the received information, where a type of the acoustic signal depends on sense contents of the information. A volume of the acoustic signal depends on a hazard potential of the motor vehicle, where the device is arranged in a passenger space of the motor vehicle. An output of the acoustic signal depends on a position and/or a traveling direction of the motor vehicle, and the acoustic signal is deposited in a digital format. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a device to output a predetermined acoustic signal.
