Disclosed in the present invention are a method and system for realizing multimedia coloring ring back tone (CRBT) service. The method comprises the following steps: after a calling terminal initiates a calling to a called terminal, a multimedia CRBT application server (AS) sends a calling message to the called terminal and controls a media server to play multimedia CRBT for the calling terminal; after the called terminal receives and responds the calling message, the called terminal returns a response message to the multimedia CRBT AS,wherein media information of the called terminal is carried in the response message; and the multimedia CRBT AS performs media negotiation between the calling terminal and the called terminal by using the media information of the called terminal carried in the response message and completes the establishment of a conversation. With the media information carried in the response message sent by the called terminal to the multimedia CRBT AS in the invention, the multimedia CRBT AS does not need to acquire the media information from the called terminal through independent signaling, and thus the network resources can be saved.
