In a method of covering bead wires of wheel tyres with rubber latex or bonding solution, wire rings are mounted in a closely spaced series on a rotatable frame which is lowered for immersing the wires thereon at least partially in a bath of rubber latex or bonding solution with simultaneous rotation of the frame and the wires to ensure an even covering of the wires, and then raised for drying and removal of the wires. A pair of rotatable frames 2 supporting the wires are mounted on a shaft 3 which is mounted in bearings on the ends of interconnected I beams 5 secured to a shaft 9. The shaft 9 is mounted on supports 13 and is rocked by a bar 11 to lower a frame 2 to partially immerse the wires. The shaft 9 is secured in the rocked position by a hand operated catch 14 which engages one of three notches in a quadrant plate 12 secured to the shaft. The frame 2 is rotated in the trough 1 by a motor 16. The wires are supported on rails 17 and 18. The fixed support rail 17 has a series of notches and is mounted on brackets 19 secured to plates 20 secured to the shaft 3. The rails 18 are connected to arms 21 keyed to rods <PICT:0767408/III/1> 22 pivoted in the brackets 19. The arms 21 are pivoted to support the wires by further arms 23 keyed to the rods and secured to nuts movable along a turntable spindle operated by a handle 26. A hood having a flue outlet may be provided over the machine and blowers at the side of the tank to remove fumes as the wires are drying raised from the tank. Each frame is dipped alternately, the wires on one frame being dried, removed and replaced while the wires on the other frame are being coated.
