PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device and a lighting fixture with malfunction prevented and user friendliness improved, through judgment between an incomplete connection state of a discharge lamp and complete disconnection with the discharge lamp. SOLUTION: Based on an input current of an inverter circuit INV after elapse of a given standby time after abnormal discharge is detected by an abnormal discharge detecting circuit 41, a control part 40 judges whether a connection state between a cold-cathode fluorescent lamp 3 and the inverter circuit INV is incomplete or completely out of contact. Then, the control part makes the inverter circuit INV stop if it is at an incomplete connection state, and does not make the inverter circuit INV stop unless it is at an incomplete state, so that malfunction is prevented and user friendliness is improved.
