769,059. Semi-conductor devices. WESTINGHOUSE AIR BRAKE CO. May 25, 1955 [June 17, 1954], No. 15059/55. Class 37. Relates to miniature dry rectifier assemblies. In the Figure an insulating cup 3 (e.g. of nylon) encloses a selenium rectifier 2 and is surrounded by a metal shell 8. A bowed spring 7 abutting shell 8 secured to lead-in 9 presses rectifier 2 into firm engagement with a U-shaped contact member 5 secured to lead-in 4. The arms 5a of contact member 5 are held in spaced relation by a spacer 6. The insulating cup 3 is secured inside shell 8 and spring 7 is stressed when the open end of shell 8 is spun over to form sealing flange 8a. A drop of sealing compound 10 is placed in opening 8b in flange 8a. The assembly may comprise a stack of rectifier discs instead of a single disc and is of midget dimension (the rectifier disc 2 is of the order of <SP>1</SP>/ 16 th inch diameter or less) and the relatively large area of the U-shaped contact member 5 and pressure spring 7 readily dissipates the heat produced when soldering the assembly into an electrical circuit. |
