A geotextile 5 combined with a water absorbent material. The water absorbent material may comprise sodium polyacrylate crystals and the geotextile may be non-woven and needle punched. The geotextile may be used in the construction of a railway track formation. The railway track formation may comprise of a ballast 3 and subgrade 4. The railway track preferably has pair of rails 2 with sleepers 1 therebetween. The geotextile 5 is preferably positioned between the subgrade 4 and the ballast 3. The geotextile 5 is thought to prevent the 'pumping phenomenon when used in the way shown. Also claimed is a method for the construction of a railway track formation including positioning a geotextile as described. |
