The present invention relates to a high data density optical recording medium (10). The invention further relates to an apparatus (20) for reading from such an optical recording medium (10). The optical recording medium (10) has marks (12) that are arranged in tracks (11). The tracks (11) have a cross section with a curved shape perpendicular to a track direction and protrude above a surface (16) of the optical recording medium (10). The marks (12) are formed by metallic structures or indentations in a surface of the tracks (11).
