A feed for fattening poultry comprises at least one of the compounds 3, 4-di(p-methoxyphenyl)-n-hexene, 3, 4-di(p-methoxyphenyl)-n-hexene-3, and 3, 4-di(p-methoxyphenyl)-n-hexene, 3, 4-di(p-methamount between 60 and 200 mg. per pound of feed. A solution of the lipogenous substance in oil of cottonseed, maize germ, fish liver or sardine, may be sprayed on to a chicken feed prepared by mixing oatmeal, maize starch, wheat bran, wheat middlings, dried residue from the distillation of fermented grain, ground oats, pulverized barley, oil-free soybean meal, meat scraps, vitamin D-activated sterol, dried milk by-product, cane molasses, alfalfa meal, calcium phosphate free from fluorides and iodized salt, or the lipogenous substance may preliminarily be ground with the soybean meal component of such a mixture.
