An inclined trough 1, Fig. 1, for the liquid treatment of cellulose threads 10 regenerated from viscose, is provided with baffles 6 having slits 9, Fig. 5, leading to thread guide holes 8. The thread moves in a counter-current direction to the flow of liquid, and the slits 9 may be offset in consecutive baffles to retain the thread in the holes. The slits 9 may be cut at right angles to the faces of the baffles, or angled as shown in a plan of a baffle, Fig. 6, the hole 8 in this case diminishing in width through the baffle. In a modification, Fig. 9, the hole 8 is part of a slot 13 cut in the baffle, which slot is closed off in use by a shutter 12 dropped into grooves within the baffle. A number of troughs may be placed side by side, or a trough of increased width may be used with baffles having several slits and holes.
