PURPOSE: A touch pad operation method of a portable terminal and apparatus thereof are provided to promote user convenience and to reduce unnecessary power consumption by controlling the operation of an apparatus using a simple touch recognition method. CONSTITUTION: A memory(120) stores control data for patterns and the patterns inputted from a touch activation mode. A key input unit(130) includes a predetermined key which generates the commend of the touch activation mode. A control unit(100) turns off the operation of a display unit(150) in the requirement of the touch activation mode and activates a touch pad(140). The control unit compares the patterns of the memory with a touch input signal inputted the touch pad. When the input pattern is the predetermined pattern, the control unit executes the function of the pattern registered in the memory. |
