PURPOSE: A novel metal catalyst supported on activated carbon aerogel, a method for preparing the same, a method for decomposing lignin compounds using the catalyst are provided to selectively decompose carbon-oxygen-carbon bonds in the lignin compounds under low temperatures and pressures. CONSTITUTION: A novel metal catalyst supported on activated carbon aerogel selectively decomposes carbon-oxygen-carbon bonds in the lignin compounds to generate aromatic compounds. The catalyst includes the activated carbon aerogel and 1-30 weight% of novel metals supported on the activated carbon aerogel. The novel metals are one or more selected from a group including palladium, rhodium, ruthenium, and platinum. A method for preparing the activated carbon aerogel includes a process in which an activator is added into carbon aerogel to be activated. The carbon aerogel is obtained by carbonizing gel. The gel is polymerizing one or more combinations selected from resorcinol and formaldehyde, melamine and formaldehyde, cresol and formaldehyde, and epoxy and amine. The activator is one selected from a group including carbon dioxide, steam, potassium hydroxide, phosphoric acid, and zinc chloride. |
