PURPOSE: A user interface providing method and portable terminal using the same are provided to enable a user to conveniently use a portable terminal by enabling the user to conveniently hold the portable terminal. CONSTITUTION: A display unit(112) displays icons according to the path of a display screen. A touch sensor(111) receives a touch position movement operation. A control unit(140) displays the movement of the icon by controlling the display unit according to the movement direction and determines the movement direction of the touch position movement operation. The control unit displays a scroll bar on the path where the icons are displayed and displays a scroll pointer on the scroll bar according to the location of the icons.
