PURPOSE: A breaker monitoring apparatus and method are provided to diagnose the internal condition of a breaker by analyzing chemical components of insulation gas in the breaker. CONSTITUTION: A first flow valve(4) is connected to a breaker(1). A decompressor(5) reduces the pressure of insulation gas drawn out from the breaker. A sensor chamber(6) comprises a gas sensor measuring the concentration of decomposition gas included in the insulation gas depressurized by decompressor. An analyzer(14) diagnoses an error in the breaker according to the decomposition gas concentration measured by the gas sensor. A storage tank(20) stores the insulation gas used for measurement and analysis by the analyzer.
