The device has a piece-holding matrix whose installation surface (2) is in contact with a sheet metal piece to be maintained. The matrix includes a support frame (1) that supports an assembling zone assembling the sheet metal piece and another sheet metal piece. A suction unit formed of oblong cavities (5) is integrated in the installation surface more close to the assembling zone and along the former sheet metal piece.
