The axle has a mobility assistance unit (14) fixed at an end of a spindle (10) and coupled with a hub (22). A brake system (40) is placed in an annular cavity defined by the spindle. A clamp (46) is pivoted around a rotating axle (48) and controlled by a cam (60) fixed to a shaft (62) pivoted with respect to a cam support (64). The cam support comprises a part having tubular shape for guiding the shaft, and another part that is provided with a connection unit for connecting the spindle and the cam support, where the parts are connected by a dismountable connection.
