<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power steering device suppressing an increase in a steering load on a driver. <P>SOLUTION: This power steering device includes a torque detection means (torque detection circuit 1) which applies alternating voltage (clock signal-excitation signal) output from an oscillator (MPU 4) to coils 6a, 6b with impedance changed according to a change in steering torque developed in a steering shaft and which detects the steering torque based on the alternating voltage (torque signal) routed through the coils 6a, 6b. In the power steering device, circuits (comparison circuit 11, assist continuation propriety determination circuit 12) are provided to determine the degree of the phase shift of the alternating voltage (torque signal) routed through the coils 6a, 6b.
