<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To rapidly set the viscosity of liquid in a head in an appropriate range while suppressing a waste liquid amount. <P>SOLUTION: When performing humidification maintenance (S1: YES), an opposite space facing an ejection surface of a head is sealed by a cap (S3), and thereafter humidification is started (S4). After the humidification is started (S4), non-ejection flushing is started after a predetermined time elapses (S5). The predetermined time is determined based on the humidity and temperature of an ejection space, an elapsed time after recording is finally performed, and so forth. The time of the non-ejection flushing is determined so that the higher the viscosity of ink in an ejection port is, the longer the time is set.
