Provided is a method of recovering active material directly from scrap battery materials, without requiring manufacturing cost or manufacturing energy that are necessary for manufacturing active material from raw materials of the active material, and without using organic solvent in the recovery of active material from scrap battery materials. This method of recovering active material from scrap battery materials comprises: (1) a compound electrode material recovery process for separating electrodes from the scrap battery materials, and recovering compound electrode material comprising active material, conductive material, and binding material from the electrodes; (2) an activation agent mixing process for mixing an activation agent comprising one or more types of alkali metal compounds into the recovered compound electrode material; (3) an activation process for heating the obtained mixture to a holding temperature that is not less than the melting-start temperature of the activation agent, and activating the active material contained in the mixture; and (4) an active material recovery process for recovering the activated active material from a mixture obtained as a result of cooling the mixture obtained as a result of the activation process. |
