A restraint device (10, 100, 200, 300) for restraining or limiting movement of the limb of a subject, comprises: an adjustable cuff member (12, 112, 210, 310) having a first end portion (12a, 112a), a second end portion (12b, 112b) and a length greater than the circumference of the limb of the subject to be restrained, said cuff member (12, 112, 210, 310) being flexible so as to allow the cuff member(12, 112, 210, 310) to be wrapped around the limb of the subject such that the first end portion (12a, 112a) extends over the second end portion (12b, 112b) and to form a band having a requisite circumference and a requisite shape around the limb of the subject; a first fixation member for providing initial fixation of the first end portion (12a, 112a) and the second end portion (12b, 112b) relative to each other and initially maintaining the cuff member (12, 112, 210, 310) around the limb of the subject at said requisite circumference and requisite shape; a second fixation member for securing the cuff member (12, 112, 210, 310) at said requisite circumference around said limb, wherein said second fixation member prevents relative movement of the first and second end portion so as to prevent increasing in the requisite circumference and loosening of the cuff member (12, 112, 210, 310) in use; and a fixation member (18, 118) for securing the restrain device (10, 100, 200, 300) to an immovable object; wherein the cuff member (12, 112, 210, 310) is sized and formed from a material so as to oppose constriction on the limb of the subject and oppose alternation in said requisite shape upon securement by the second fixation member.
