PURPOSE: A display apparatus using a data transmission and reception method and portable terminal thereof are provided to enable a user to control data transmission and reception between a display apparatus and a portable terminal by recognizing connection directions. CONSTITUTION: A portable terminal connects to a network for communication(S300). The portable terminal connects to a display apparatus(S310). The touch direction of the portable terminal is recognized(S320). The portable terminal transmits and receives data by connecting to the network(S330). The portable terminal converts transmission and reception functions by recognizing connection directions.
