The invention relates to a fireplace, comprising a combustion chamber (10), which is delimited by a combustion space lining (13) and is accessible through a door (11) or flap, wherein the combustion space lining at least partially consists of a ceramic or glass ceramic material, and wherein a wall element (18) is arranged at least in some regions on the side facing away from the combustion space behind the combustion space lining made of ceramic or glass ceramic. In order to achieve improved functionality and better output yield, according to the invention the wall element is arranged spaced apart from the associated combustion space lining such that an intermediate space (14) is created. A heat exchanger or insulating material can be positioned in the intermediate space.
