<p>A transmit coil (1) generates pulsed magnetic field and receive coil (2) detects conductive target (3). The receive coil is connected to input of integrator circuit (5) through damping resistor (4) to provide output signal to evaluation unit (7). A switching element (6) generates switching signal for operating state of integrator circuit. The integrator circuit derives induced voltage in receive coil across output against reference potential in closed state of switching element. The integrator circuit acts as reverse integrator with damping resistor in open state of switching element. An independent claim is included for method for operating inductive proximity switch.</p>
