<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for crushing a battery, which can prevent the device from being fired and being corroded to facilitate maintenance of the device. <P>SOLUTION: A processing device A for immersing a battery pack P including a single battery c and a housing b in a discharge liquid to discharge its electric charges, comprises: a cooling tank 10 for holding a coolant and into which the battery pack P is immersed; and an opening machine 20 for forming an opening enabling the discharge liquid to flow into the housing b, in the housing b of the battery pack P immersed in the coolant. This can realize the same as in the case that the single batteries c are separately immersed in the discharge liquid, allowing electric discharge in a short time. Even if the single battery c is broken and short-circuited to generate heat, firing can be suppressed by cooling the single battery c using the coolant, and even if firing occurs, the firing is extinguished immediately to generate no fire and ensure safety.
