The present technology relates to an image processing device and image processing method that, in the case that a depth image having a lowered resolution is transmitted, enable the high-precision generation of an image at a predetermined viewpoint using the depth image at the reception side. A parallax image resolution-raising unit raises the resolution of each parallax image of an auxiliary image having 1/2 the resolution of a compatible image. On the basis of the position of a virtual viewpoint, a parallax image warping-processing unit generates parallax images at the virtual viewpoint by means of performing warping processing on the parallax images of the auxiliary image that have been raised in resolution. A smoothing processing unit corrects the parallax value of an occlusion region with the parallax images at the virtual viewpoint as the subject. The present technology, for example, can be applied to a decoding device that decodes glasses-less 3D images. |
