<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for detecting multiple feed and separating all sheets. <P>SOLUTION: A sheet feeding system for a printing apparatus that can detect multiple feed and where a single sheet can proceed to a machine while separating all of the sheets includes a nip with a drive roller for feeding the sheets. A downstream invertible pressing roller of the drive roller is connected to a motor, but runs idle in a sheet feeding direction in a normal operation. When multiple feed is detected, the motor is turned on and the invertible pressing roller is actuated by a controller. Friction between the invertible pressing roller and the sheet in contacting with the sheet is larger than friction between the sheets. The roller contacts with the sheet and moves back the sheet. The roller can divert the sheet in each sheet conveyance direction using a gate mechanism, and can return the sheet in a sheet feeding path as necessary. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
