<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a breakwater which fulfills a function as the breakwater only when a tsunami is generated and is easy to construct and maintain at low cost. <P>SOLUTION: A floating breakwater comprises: a pair of columns which are stored on a bottom of water at an interval and capable of vertically sliding to be protruded above the bottom of the water; a laying body which is installed between the columns and capable of being spread upward from a folded state on the bottom of the water; and a floating body attached to either the columns or the laying body.
