PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanism for obtaining authentification in a storage medium temporarily assigned to a user for obtaining the authentification.

SOLUTION: In an image forming system with an authentication server 200 connected to a multifunction machine 300, the user information management section 252 of the authentication server 200 registers identification information on an IC card temporarily assigned to the user. When the temporarily assigned IC card has already been registered in the user information management section 252, the same is deleted prior to registration. The temporary card number management section 354 of the multifunction machine 300 manages the identification information list of the temporarily assigned IC card. The use limit management section 253 of the authentication server 200 manages the use limits of an ordinary IC card and the temporarily assigned IC card, and applies different use limits to the ordinary IC card from the temporarily assigned IC card.
