The seat has a pair of rails, and a releasable locking device for releasably locking a position of one rail with respect to another rail within a comfort adjustable region of the seat. An actuatable retaining device (20) is provided independent or dependent of the locking device in a region outside the comfort adjustable region of the vehicle seat. The rails are locked in a driving direction upon movement of the former rail with respect to the latter rail. The locked rails are releasable by exerting a predetermined force on the vehicle seat against the driving direction.
