PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for detecting an obstacle using a laser are provided to widen a front detection area, and to increase a detection rate in various environments and conditions. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for detecting an obstacle using a laser comprises a laser source(100), a camera(200), and a image processor(300). The laser source generates laser lights. The camera radiates the laser lights, and films a front image and a laser beam irradiated image. The image processor processes the image filmed by the camera. The image processor subtracts the other image from one of the two images. If the light spot(150) in which the laser beam is reflected from a subject exists in the image, the image processor determines that the obstacle exists.
