<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a furnace carbon black capable of improving mechanical characteristics while maintaining processability. <P>SOLUTION: A soft furnace carbon black includes a nitrogen adsorption specific surface area of 30 to 50 m<SP POS="POST">2</SP>/g, a dibutyl phthalate absorption amount of 100 ml/100 g to 140 ml/100g, and a toluene pigment permeability of 80% or more. X in formula (1) is 1.00 to 1.20, Y in formula (2) is 240 to 350, and Z in formula (3) is 0.80 to 1.20.
